There doesn’t need to be a big reason to take photos with your kids.

I think sometimes we convince ourselves that photos need to be tied to something significant before we allow ourselves to prioritize them. A birthday, a pregnancy announcement, a holiday card, a graduation, a milestone. And while those moments absolutely deserve to be remembered, I don’t think they are the only seasons worth documenting.
Sometimes the reason is simply that your children are growing and life is changing quietly right in front of you.

The truth is, so much of motherhood happens in the ordinary days. The slow mornings, the messy afternoons, the routines that feel repetitive while you’re in them. But those are often the very seasons that become the most meaningful when you look back years from now. The way your child reaches for your hand without thinking. The way they still ask to be carried. The missing teeth, the tiny shoes by the door, the curls that probably won’t stay forever. Even the way they look at you in this season of life is something that will change over time.
It happens slowly until one day it suddenly feels different.

That’s why I love motherhood sessions so deeply, especially photos of mothers and daughters around Mother’s Day. Not because there needs to be a holiday attached to it, but because it creates space to pause for a second and really see the season you’re currently living in. It’s so easy to move through motherhood constantly focused on what needs to get done next that we rarely stop to notice the beauty that already exists in front of us.
There is something so special about preserving the way your daughter wraps her arms around your neck right now, or the way your little one laughs when you pull them close. Those moments may feel small while they’re happening, but they are the moments that eventually become part of your family’s story. They deserve to be remembered just as much as the big celebrations do.

Photos are one of the only ways we get to freeze time a little bit. They let your children look back one day and see the way you loved them in every stage of life, not just during the polished or milestone moments. They remind them that their childhood was worth documenting even in the middle of ordinary Tuesdays and slow seasons at home.
You never need a perfect reason to take photos with your kids. You don’t need everything to feel perfectly together first. You don’t need to wait until life slows down, or until the house is cleaner, or until everyone is older. Your family is worthy of being remembered exactly as it is right now.
Because one day, these ordinary moments will be the ones you miss the most.
